farthest reaches of the universe. This week on The Deep, aired

Guam. Next, Father Javid from Pakistan and Xavier Pastor with
Oceana and The Ranger will be giving us an update. Telephone calls
for Ken will be welcome, so tune in tonight and join host Jim
Sullivan, Pam Eastlick and our expedition coordinator Peter Melyan

We learn from Ken Stewart's
web page http://www.guamdiner.com that Ken got his start
as a culinary expert on Guam when he was a military dependent
with the Air Force. His father was stationed on Guam and
his mother designated him as the kitchen helper. At the
time Ken Stewart had no idea that his love of food would
take him all the way to California and back to Guam. It
seems that Ken had an encounter with an electric grill,
which may have been somewhat holier than most, and led him
to join the food service industry. His first encounter was
as a dishwasher and then he was elevated to busboy at the
Mr. Steak Restaurant chain in California. If you have visited
Ken's web site or receive his news letter you will easily
understand why he was not considered the average busboy.
Ken actually helped develop the "Busboy Bible"
for the chain. Talk about taking your work to the top.

After College Ken went to work for the prestigious
Hobart Corporation specializing in Food Equipment and Service.
He learned about the food industry and supply business. In 1978
he came back to Guam to work for Smith Hotel & Restaurant
Supply, the local Hobart distributor on Guam. Later the company
was purchased by Atkins Kroll, a well know company on Guam. Ken
became the sales representative and later manager for these two
companies and he was able to develop relationships with the local
food and beverage managers and chefs in Guam's hotels. This began
Ken's sojourn with the restaurants and hotels on Guam.
In 1994 Atkins Kroll closed its restaurant division
and ken made a brief foray into the world of Internet Technology
and Computers. Ken worked with his brother at Innova Technologies
and helped to provide electronic interactive advertising and information
services vis the InfoGuide kiosks at the hotels.
This sojourn into the world or electronic communication would
prove to be very important in developing his now famous guamdiner.com
web page and The Guam Food Guy internet news letter. You may ask,
is Ken really famous, well as of July 31st, 2005 Ken was listed
as the 5th most popular international food guy web page. I think
that qualifies him for a special mention.
There are more than 3000 subscribers
for his news letter. During his Innova days, Ken discovered
the power of the internet and when Innova closed its doors,
he was able to branch out on his own and provide information
and marketing to his former and new customers. You can learn
more about becoming a client by contacting Ken on his web
page. You can also find the Guam Food Guy's Favorite Smoothie

A new and exciting venture for Ken happened in
January of 2000 when he wrote his first culinary review for the
Boston Pizza restaurant. Next he wrote a review for the Thai Esan
restaurant and then the Greek Freak. Ken was pleasantly surprised
when the restaurants called to say that new customers where frequenting
the restaurants and he was being called the "Pizza Aficionado".
You can still find Sarah Pleadwell today at Jeff's Pirates Cove
cooking up Greek recipes. Ken wrote his first review in January
of 2000 but The Guam Food Guy was not born until April when during
a brainstorming session with Jerry Roberts the idea was finalized.
Ken's weekly reviews have become a household favorite and a special
treat for both the restaurant reviewed and the customers following
his suggestions. Being the food guy hasn't hurt Kens love of food
and has provided a valuable service for both the local and tourist
community. Ken has joined with another adventure and food guy
Mr. Haga to provide a restaurant guide for tourist. The Guam Food
Guy, through his web page, provides the most comprehensive source
of information on Food, Wine, Health and Nutrition on Guam and
also introduces the new comer to Guam to our island pastime of
dining both in the village and at our best restaurants. Ken's
Directory lists restaurants by a. Cuisine Style b. Village c.
restaurant format (bakery, coffee shop).
We have to mention a possible Believe It or
Not aspect of Ken's regular feature of on-line visitors to the
GuamDiner.com. Michelle
Christy, an Amphibian Conservation Biologist, was studying the
Guam Tree Snake and also paddling on Guam. She turned from snakes
to wine and became a regular visitor to Ken's web page and provided
valuable information for his readers from her extensive cellar
of over 1500 bottles of wine. She says "If you know what
you like, build on that. If you don't know, but want to learn,
uncork a bottle and get started" Michelle is no longer sampling
wine on Guam but her love for wine has sparked an important page
on Ken's web site which now provides a refreshing review of wines.
The Guam Food Guy would not be complete without
mentioning several special items either being developed or presented
both in his articles and on his web page. Ken is preparing a special
directory of foods and restaurants on the island called "Let's
Eat"and it will be classified by country, style of food,
village and type of service. It will be published in magazine
format in collaboration with Directions Magazine and will provide
a service to both restaurants and their clients. If interested
contact Ken Stewart on his web page. His web page also has one
of the best links to foods and restaurants of the world not to
mention a great list of both local and international recipes.
Ken has been called the "Food Barometer of Guam"
We are excited to have Ken Stewart on our show
so tune into K-57 The Deep at 6:00 PM Wednesday to hear about
how a local entrepreneur has used the internet and advertising
to build a successful information business while enjoying his
favorite past time of eating on Guam. Then meet Father Javid from
Pakistan and hear about the continued journey of Xavier Pastor
and the Oceana Research Vessel the Ranger. The Deep, hosted by
Jim Sullivan with Pam Eastlick and Peter Melyan and this is the
place to be on K-57 tonight at 6:00 p.m. Don’t miss it!
