August 29, 2007: Eclipses and Voyages

There will be a total lunar eclipse over the Marianas Islands tonight and it occurs in prime evening time.  Eclipses of the Sun and Moon occur when they are exactly lined up with Earth.  A lunar eclipse or an eclipse of the Moon can occur only at full Moon when the Earth, Sun and Moon are lined up with the Earth in the middle.  The Moon enters the Earth’s shadow and is somehow changed in appearance. This week, we will talk about celestial mechanics in motion and pay a visit to the original deep space Voyagers! MORE>>
