I’m taking a well-deserved vacation this week so this will be an abbreviated version of my usual column.  But I couldn’t let the week pass without some comment on a very important news story.  After all, it isn’t often that you hear about something happening “for the first time in recorded history”.  In case you haven’t heard, the much-fabled Northwest Passage is no longer a fable. I hope you were able to see the lunar eclipse last week and for those of you who have been unable to find the full moon-sized Mars in the sky, I hate to disappoint you, but those e-mails you get don’t always tell the truth.  If Mars close enough to Earth to be the size of the full Moon, the resulting earthquakes would destroy all life on the planet.
