Our Host

Jim

Jim is, above all, a passionate eco-humanitarian who has developed his own science talk-radio show to inform The DEEP’s listeners about such newsy topics as global warming, shark-finning and reef protection as well as to explore earth’s many underwater and space mysteries.

He learned to sail on Bair Lake in Jones Michigan and by the time he was 12, he was teaching his friends to do the same.

Inspired by his late Grandfather, Donald ‘Sully’ Sullivan, who was the original designer of the first production V-8 engine for Ford Motors, Jim spent a portion of his life as a competitive motorcycle and car racer

After working as a cinematographer, photographer and owner of his own advertising agency, he returned to his roots and launched an effort to circumnavigate the world.

With his K9, Captain Melody, he visited children in hospitals and through his computer, created a network of ‘Ocean Friends.’ These unfortunate and ailing children could track the voyage on computer and meet others though Jim’s efforts to uplift and enrich their lives.

After sailing 12,000 miles and visiting five countries, Ocean Friends, the Expedition, was halted by a super typhoon in April 2002. Jim is more determined than ever to re-launch and complete his voyage and expand his radio coverage worldwide. You can follow along with his adventures at OCEANFRIENDS.ORG.

Jim makes his home on the tropical island of Guam that is nothing more than the jungle peak of a submerged mountain that rises nearly 40,000 feet above the floor of the Marianas Trench, the deepest place on Earth.
